Description of the Lotus Flower

In the Middle…The “Lotus Flower”

The “Lotus” starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the water’s surface, continually moving towards the light. Once it emerges to the surface, its blooms, thus, symbolizing awakening to spiritual reality.

It is believed, that God created the “Lotus” as the first flower to appear in a world of water.

Depicts  “Spiritual Promise”, and the “Expansion of the Soul”.

“Lotus Shape Flower” with two sets of petals consisting of “Four” points each.

The First Set of Petals symbolizes “ The Four Corners of the Universe ”.

Underneath is the Second Set of Petals as it symbolizes and represents, ”The Four Archangels” that govern over the North, East, South, and West.

The Ten Gold Petals signify the Perfection of Divine Order. A ”Completeness of Order” marking its entirety round. The Ten petals imply “Completion”, having the order of perfect harmony.

The Three Petals signify the “Holy Trinity” God, Our Father, Jesus Christ, Our Lord, and the Holy Spirit, Our Comforter.

The Center of The “Lotus Flower”

In the Center of the Lotus, lies a Symbol for “Jesus Christ The Divine.”

The meaning of the Initials “IHS” means  to promote devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. IHS was viewed as an acronym for the Latin Iesus Hominum Salvator, meaning “Jesus Savior of Mankind.”

IHS is a Christogram – a combination of letters that represent the holy name “Jesus.”

The Founder of the SCC uses its letters to represent her service and devotion to Our Lord, Jesus Christ. “In His Service.”

The Illuminated Dove, Symbol represents the “Holy Spirit.”

Jesus told His apostles…“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you will know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you; I will come to you.” (John 14:16)

Additional Information:

The lotus and water lily are prominent symbols in Egyptian, Biblical, Classical, European, and Indian, literature. They relate to creation, regeneration, and the state of the initiate and higher beings, of all whom travel through life’s vicissitudes and trials, to become at one with God, in order to return and spread its light to other receptive souls. In addition, the “Lotus” symbolizes “Immortality and Resurrection.”
